Maha-Cundi Initiation 2025 on 18 September 2025 (Pushya Day)

A whole new approach
This year, the annual Cundi event takes on a brand new name, the Maha-Cundi Drubchen, to reflect a whole new approach and experience for all of us practitioner participants.
What does Maha-Cundi Drubchen mean?
The Sanskrit word Maha means great, while the Tibetan word Drubchen is the shortened form of ‘drubpa chenpo’. A Drubchen is a great multi-day prayer accomplishment ceremony for a deity where their mantra is recited non-stop for the entire duration. The Maha-Cundi Drubchen thus is a great gathering of practitioners in an extensive group practice ceremony to fulfill samaya, request for an abundant dawn of blessings and accomplishments and to request for divine direction from Maha-Cundi.

Establishing the Maha-Cundi Drubchen tradition
This year marks a clear departure from previous years
Full participation over three days and two nights
The Maha-Cundi Drubchen maintains its traditional prayer relay format, with continuous group chanting of Lhamo Cundi’s long mantra over three days and two nights. This collective practice intensifies blessings and prayers for all sentient beings, the longevity of Lineage Gurus, and the fulfillment of virtuous wishes. Unlike previous years where participants joined ad-hoc sessions, this Drubchen requires full three-day commitment, with practitioners assigned daily and nightly prayer shifts, scheduled breaks, and the option to find nearby accommodations.
Three compulsory special training sessions before Drubchen
There will be three compulsory special training sessions prior to the Maha-Cundi Drubchen in order to amply prepare participants. Singha Thekchen Namdrol Rinpoche has accepted disciples’ requests for these special trainings, and they will be held on 3 Oct 2025 7.30pm, 10 Oct 2025 7.30pm, and 11 Oct 2025 2pm. These will be strictly reserved for participants only.

Cundi initiation is a requirement
Additionally, this year, it is a prerequisite for Drubchen participants to have received Cundi initiation. In response to that, disciples have requested for Singha Rinpoche to bestow a Cundi initiation. We are happy to share that he has accepted the requests, and shall be bestowing the initiation on the 18th of September, which will be open to the public.

Serving as a bridging step towards full Cundi solitary retreat
Maha-Cundi Drubchen offers the Cundi practitioners who have received initiation and are doing daily practice, the chance to awaken and strengthen our practice of Cundi in the consecrated mandala of Arya Cundi, especially amidst turmoil and difficulty. For the aspiring serious practitioner, the Drubchen, together with the special trainings, also serves as a bridging step towards full Cundi solitary retreat in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Participate in a Cundi Fire Puja at completion
With all intense deity practices, it is most beneficial to offer a fire puja at its conclusion to purify any negativities accumulated such as from mistakes in practice and so on. As such, participants are included in the Cundi fire puja to be held immediately following completion of the Cundi Drubchen, which shall also be open to the public so as to be able to benefit as many as possible.
Set aside three days two nights from your daily life and come join us in the prayer retreat—for those who cultivate a strong link with her, through effective practice she will lead us all the way to enlightenment.
Background of the Cundi practice
As advised by H.E. Jhado Rinpoche, Lhamo Cundi is the patron deity of Thekchen Choling. He had especially transmitted the esoteric lineage of Lhamo Cundi to our Spiritual Director Singha Rinpoche, thus establishing a direct connection between our temple and Cundi practice. The Maha-Cundi Drubchen is also a commitment made by Singha Rinpoche to Jhado Rinpoche to ensure the blossoming of this rare lineage.

Benefits of the Maha-Cundi Drubchen

Cundi has been highly revered since ancient times for her powerful blessings in granting spiritual and worldly successes. Hence, one may request Cundi to gain Dharma realizations, growth in businesses or personal careers, having a harmonious family, or having good interpersonal relationships through making offerings and supplicating to Cundi in this ceremony.
Through sincere cultivation with Arya Cundi, we can purify mountains of negative karma, including karma accumulated from our broken vows. Cundi helps to dispel misunderstandings and hatred within us and towards others that has risen from holding onto wrong views. Also, Cundi protects us from life obstacles caused by non-human entities and is able to transform all adverse conditions into auspicious ones.
It is said that several days participating in a drubchen can yield the same results as years of solitary retreat.
